WHO WE ARE

The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network, WEEN, is a dynamic, women-led 501(c)(3) organization focused on molding BIOPIC women into the next generation of impactful leaders and innovators within entertainment, business and tech. Through its signature programming and initiatives, WEEN has impacted the lives of over 80,000 young women worldwide.

THE FOUNDERS

When women join forces and support one another, they are capable of moving mountains. WEEN has embodied this principle from its inception. Bonded in outrage over racist and misogynist comments made by radio personality Don Imus, four friends—Valeisha Butterfield-Jones, Kristi Henderson, Lauren Lake and Sabrina Thompson Mitchell—joined forces and took action in 2007. Frustrated by the lack of representation for women of color across industries, they created and conceptualized WEEN to be a platform where BIPOC women could defend and strategically support one another on a large, unified scale.
