The Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network is a coalition of women and men of all ages and races committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society.
WEEN is comprised of individuals dedicated to improving the quality of life of women worldwide. Representing the entertainment industry, WEEN has taken a leadership role in the balanced portrayal of women and partners with like-minded organizations and individuals to provide educational programs targeting women.
WEEN grants scholarships each year to deserving college students and young women entrepreneurs. WEEN also provides mentorship match-making and programs year round with the following focus:

THE WEEN ACADEMY
What is the WEEN academy?
The WEEN Academy is a 4-week crash course in the entertainment business with celebrities and industry executives. The first of its kind, the WEEN Academy was developed by the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN), a non-profit global coalition of women and men committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society.
Our goal is to identify and prepare the next generation of leading entertainment industry executives.
Top WEEN Academy students will receive 1) official WEEN certification 2) a WEEN mentor for twelve months to support our graduate’s progress post program, and 3) access to internships in the entertainment business.
WEEN ACADEMY AUDITIONS

–Must be 18-22 years of age (during the time of auditions)
–Motivated, driven women with interests in working in the entertainment industry
–If chosen, must be available to attend the WEEN academy in New York City July 1—August 1. From 9am-1pm Monday-Friday.

What to bring to the WEEN academy auditions?
1—Government issued ID (no ID, no audition)
2–One page resume
At the bottom of the resume, please add one personal AND one business reference (name, email address, contact #) (recommendation letters are NOT needed. References will only be contacted if you are in the final rounds to enter the academy).
4—Two 8×10 clear color pictures of yourself. (paper copies are acceptable). Please staple one of your pictures on the back of your resume.
5—A printed copy of one writing sample (500 word max/typed, double spaced) describing a personal dilemma that you have faced/are facing and the steps you took to overcome it.
What to expect at the WEEN academy auditions?
WEEN judges will be looking for motivated, driven, critical thinkers who can efficiently communicate their goals, possess leadership skills with impressive knowledge regarding various faucets of the entertainment industry. Please carve out the full day in case you are called back to participate in the last round of auditions taking place ~12:30pm.
Judges will only pick 20 young ladies to enter the 2014 WEEN academy.
***Early arrival is suggested. Judges will interview as many applicants as possible before 12:15 in order to invite finalists back for the final afternoon round.
WEEN ACADEMY DETAILS
Expense/Living tips to remember, if chosen:
1–Tuition is free which covers field visits, top executive speakers/meetings, curriculum/books, orientation & graduation fees.
2–The WEEN academy does not cover housing for students. All students must secure housing for one month. If chosen, WEEN staff will connect new students with former WEEN academy graduates to get tips of “how to transition to New York City.” In addition, WEEN staff will connect the entire incoming class in April for possible roommate opportunities.
3–Students will need one unlimited metro card for 30days. Check www.mta.info for prices.
4–All WEEN academy sessions are 9am-1pm. Snacks will be provided daily, but lunch will be provided only on days that we have panel sessions.
