Our curriculum covers branding, on-air talent, philanthropy, event planning, self-esteem, social justice, and entrepreneurship. Through lectures, technology, workshops, social service projects and field trips our students are exposed to inside knowledge that promotes innovation and activism.
As a result of the tools and resources provided, our alumni have been afforded the opportunities to intern and work with some of the most reputable companies in music, fashion, technology, public relations, government, television and radio.
Young women of color between the ages of 18-26 must RSVP and attend in-person auditions held each March in New York City. Each candidate will undergo a series of group and individual interviews about your desired life path, interests, skills, current events and industry knowledge in front of a panel of judges. Judges pick the top 25 ladies to make the academy.
Candidates wishing to audition must be women of color between the ages of 18-26 (must turn 18 by May 15th and must not turn 27 before August 1). A college degree is not required. Candidate must RSVP for in-person auditions, bring an updated resume, clear headshot and able to undergo a rigorous auditioning process of panel interviews.
The academy is held the entire month of July from 8:30am-1:30pm in New York City.
Tuition, books, and lecture lunches are free of charge. Students must research, find and pay for (read more) their own housing, and costs of transportation to and within NYC for the month of July. We encourage students to hustle and secure part-time jobs in NYC to offset any costs. Part of the WEEN academy experience is multi-tasking and critically navigating life in NYC. Those that want to be in NYC find a way to be here.
Aside from access to inside knowledge from leading industry executives and an instant global network, each graduate earns a WEEN academy certification, a specific WEEN mentor/big sister, access to internship and job placement, and executive referrals. We have an 89% graduation rate and an 86% internship and/or job placement.
